How driver devices work
Device links, PIN codes, and getting routes onto a driver’s phone without an app.
Routelink drivers don’t install an app. Each device gets a unique web link that opens in whatever browser is already on the phone.
One link per device
Create a device for each phone or tablet that will run routes, and send the driver its link once. They can bookmark it or add it to their home screen. Every day after that, the same link shows whatever route is currently assigned.
You can name devices however suits you — by driver, by vehicle, or just “Van 1”. Whatever you’ll recognise on the planning screen.
PIN protection
Every device link is protected by a PIN code, so a link that gets forwarded or ends up in the wrong WhatsApp group can’t be used to see your customers’ details.
Share the PIN separately from the link, and change it if a phone is lost or a driver leaves.
Multiple routes a day
A device isn’t limited to one route. If a driver comes back to the depot and heads out again, assign the second route to the same device and it appears when the first is finished.
Subcontractors and busy periods
Because there’s nothing to install, adding a subcontractor for a peak week is just creating a device and sending them a link. Delete the device when you’re done and the link stops working.
Paper backup
If a phone dies or the driver is somewhere with no signal, export the route as a printable PDF trip sheet before they leave.
